THE END OF VIDEO AS DVD TAKES OVER
01/08/2006

Equestrian Vision has announced that as of this October, they will no longer hold     video cassette stock (VHS).  The renowned maker and distributor of equestrian programmes, who 20 years ago pioneered the introduction of equestrian videos, has conceded that they can no longer justify the investment in space and stock to service a diminishing video market.

“We hung on as long as we could, providing both DVD and video copies of most titles in order to provide a service in this traditional market place.  The good news is that there has been a very orderly changeover to DVD and overall sales are up by 8% on last year.  Therefore, the time has come to discontinue video and concentrate on a better quality list of DVD titles”, says Managing Director, Jamie Hawksfield.

A special clearance sale of video stock is being held and there are some real bargains for what is still top quality programming.  Training programmes with leading riders and trainers, plus great events and favourite entertainment titles on video cassette will be sold off for just a few pounds each while stocks last.

The fast growing market for DVD reflects it’s more user-friendly format to the equestrian viewer, with chaptered programming making it more accessible for reference as well as for entertainment.  Jamie is confident about the future.  “This autumn we will embark on a concentrated production programme in order to bring a wealth of new titles into the marketplace during the next year and beyond.  DVD is now firmly established in the marketplace and recent sales indicators show that DVD will be even more popular than video”.
